Rewarewa wood container

This piece is made from a piece of Rewa rewa wood, which is native to New Zealand.

It was started by my instructor, Brian and he gave it to me to finish off however I liked. The container and lid were both turned on a lathe. I sanded it with sandpaper from 120 and worked through the grades to finish with 400. I covered it with Museum wax to give a good end result.

Rewa rewa is one of my favourite woods to look at, due to the nice patterning. This piece has an iridescant shine when the light hits it at different angles.
